Director/Curator
Yearly Salary $50,000-$55,000
The Orillia Museum of Art and History seeks an experienced, innovative and
highly motivated individual to assume the position of Director/Curator. This
person will have the skills necessary to lead the museum as it enters into
the second phase of its capital campaign to restore and refit the
historically significant Sir Samuel Steele Memorial Building.
The Orillia Museum of Art & History is a member-supported not-for-profit
organization, situated in a vibrant city long renowned for its commitment
and contribution to Canadian culture and heritage. It strives to foster
excellence in the arts and history, striking a balance and a unique blend
between the two.
The Director/Curator will work with dedicated staff, Board members,
volunteers and citizens in an overall mission to advance the museum's
objectives, providing strategic and financial direction.
The successful candidate will possess:
. administration experience and strong organizational skills
. competency with PC-based programs and related applications.
. excellent written and oral communication skills
. the ability to manage a variety of projects concurrently
. experience in curatorial research and exhibition development
. fundraising and grant writing skills
The Director/Curator will write reports and make presentations, lobby on the
museum's behalf, and engage with a wide range of constituents including
children, seniors, members and supporters, educators and artists, museum
professionals and community leaders, government representatives, the general
public, and the media. The candidate must have a commitment to education
through arts and heritage.
The successful candidate will have a degree in History, Fine Arts, Business
Administration or a related field, or an equivalent blend of education and
experience. As an ideal candidate, you have three years experience in
management of a community museum or art gallery, and demonstrate an
understanding of professional not-for-profit organizations. Applicants
should be familiar with current standards and legislation relating to
museums and art galleries.
