This year is an exciting year for the Orillia Museum of Art & History and the Festival of Banners. It is the first year OMAH is taking the reigns and organizing the festival along with several volunteers, as well as acting as the host. OMAH is dedicated to making the 2010 Festival of Banners as vibrant as the last three.

"Celebrating 50 Years of the Mariposa Folk Festival," is the theme for the 2010 festival of Banners and your starting point to create a unique work of art that may line the streets with other banners in downtown Orillia this summer.

Everyone 8 and over is invited to create and enter a design for the festival. The chosen designs will be painted by the designers themselves, and will hang on Orillia's streets from May to October of 2010. The banners will be sold at a silent auction gala at the Orillia Museum of Art and History at the end of the festival in November, and the proceeds will go to the 2011 festival.

This year, kids ages 8 to 11 will paint 2'x2' banners that will be displayed on a Wall outside in the downtown core.

Applications for the Festival of Banners can be picked up beginning February 2nd, 2010at the Orillia Museum of Art & History, 30 Peter St. South. Applications and designs should be brought back to OMAH by February 27 at 4:00 p.m. Designers will begin painting their banners once the chosen designs are picked at the end of March, and the banners will be hung around the city by the end of May.
