Now\, through Voices Through Time: A Mariposa Journey\, we invite audiences to step into this rich history—told through the striking photography of Edwin Gailits and Deb Halbot.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis immersive exhibition\, hosted by the Mariposa Folk Festival\, curated by Beehive Design\, will transport visitors through decades of Mariposa’s vibrant legacy. Featuring rare black-and-white images from the 1970s alongside today’s dynamic festival scenes\, it captures the evolving spirit of a tradition that continues to inspire generations. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n Exhibiting Photographers\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Growing up in 1950s Toronto\, Edwin discovered his passion for photography in the 1960s when he witnessed the magic of an image appearing in a darkroom tray. Through self-taught experimentation\, he began capturing the world around him\, developing a fascination with bringing images to life. \nMusic became another powerful influence. He saw musicians transforming emotions into sound\, much like his own photographic alchemy. He started by processing photos of high school performers\, later capturing shows in coffee houses and clubs before photographing concerts at Massey Hall\, entering the world stage of concert photography. His love for travel led himto Europe in 1971\, where he unknowingly embraced street photography. \nHe believed that if someone else couldn’t see what he captured in a familiar place\, he had performed another kind of magic. Edwin earned a degree in Photo Arts from Toronto Metropolitan University\, influenced by masters likeCartier-Bresson and Dorothea Lange. Though he exhibited his work in the 1970s\, he later focused on directing theatre and documentary films while always returning to photography—his lifelong pursuit of visual poetry. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n As a child\, Deb poured over old photographs\, drinking in the indelible moments captured forever in time. After retiring as an elementary school teacher\, she immersed herself in all things photography\, particularly in mastering a DSLR camera\, learning the exposure triangle\, and understanding the art of creating and editing images. Designing a Facebook photography page\, ‘Through MyEyes’\, in 2014\, she committed to posting one image a day for a year to break through shyness and gain feedback for growth. \nHer page has since grown to almost 3000 followers. Recognized by the Orillia Arts Community as winner of the Emerging Artist Award 2016\, Deb has since immersed herself in her community of Orillia capturing events such as Farm to Table\, Night Market\, Rama Pow Wow\, Scottish Festival and many Downtown and Waterfront events.
