Gangs\, Guns and Grog is themed around Orillia in the 1870s\, a time in which there was a licensed pub for every 150 citizens and it was legal to carry a loaded and concealed firearm. 1870s Orillia was chaos\, and we are so excited to tell you all about it every Wednesday night! Tours will depart from OMAH at 7pm and finish at Couchiching Craft Brewing Co. at 8:30pm where your first drink is included in your ticket price (participants must be over 19 years old). Please wear appropriate footwear to walk in. This program begins on Wednesday July 10\, 2024\, and will run every Wednesday until the end of August. Book now as space is limited! You won’t want to miss out on this fantastic date night opportunity\, or an evening out with friends.  \nAdult ticket (19+) \n$25 per person ($20 for members). \nTickets must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. \nFor more information\, send an email to Vanessa. \n \n \n \n \n \n Link to Register Coming Soon! \n \n \n \n \n \n Preview the tour! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n VIEW OUR OTHER TOURS AND ADULT PROGRAMMING\n \n \n \n \n \n AllTours\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Haunted History Tours \n \n \n \n \n \n A Night at the Museum \n \n \n \n \n \n Gangs\, Guns & Grog \n \n \n \n \n \n ORILLIA PUBLIC ART TOUR

SUMMARY:OWL PEN REVISITED
DESCRIPTION:Owl and Snake”\, 11.5”x16.75”\, oil based ink on Awagami Kitakata Paper\, 2022. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Owl Pen Revisited is inspired by the work of Lucille Oille’s relief prints from the book “The Owl Pen”. Oille was a Canadian artist and printmaker (1912-1977) who lived in Oro Medonte in the 1940’s\, creating images for the book “The Owl Pen” by Kenneth Wells. This exhibition will also feature current rural landscapes and places of personal significance. \n  \nGillian Lowry is a multidisciplinary artist working in printmaking (relief printing and screen printing)\, digital illustration\, painting and sculpture. She draws on the natural world to inform her work\, creating landscapes and incorporating animals and birds which appear to her as spiritual messengers. Showcasing photographs of iconic places in Orillia as they once were while contrasting with current photographs by Samantha Vessios\, puts history into context. History is all around us and exists within our everyday lives. We need to remember our history through our stories and preservation of objects and historic buildings. Learn about iconic places as they were “then” and what they are “now.” SUMMARY:History Speaker Series | Jessica Allen - Archiving the Future History You Can Hold Onto
DESCRIPTION:Jessica Allen\, our new History Committee Chair\, will be giving a talk on January 15 called: Archiving the Future: History we Can Hold Onto. Jessica is a dedicated museum professional and heritage advocate\, managing the widely recognized Simcoe Curator account\, which promotes cultural heritage and historical storytelling across the region. With a postgraduate diploma in Museum and Gallery Studies and extensive experience working with archival materials for institutions like Library and Archives Canada\, Jessica is passionate about making history accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. \nThis talk will dive into OMAH’s collection and discuss the importance of museum collections as a whole. OMAH is home to over 23\,000 artefacts but what does that actually mean? This talk will also include discussions on sustainability\, accessing collections\, and featured artifacts! \nThe presentation is designed to provide an accessible and inspiring overview of archival work\, focusing on how museums like OMAH can utilize archives to enrich their storytelling and foster deeper community connections. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the importance of archives\, the challenges archivists face\, and innovative ways archives can support the museum’s mission of preserving and celebrating local history.
