SUMMARY:24TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY ART SHOW: ON THE EDGE
DESCRIPTION:Since its inception in 1997\, this art show has inspired hundreds of women artists to participate in highly dynamic exhibitions\, exploring a wide range of media and themes.\n\nIn celebration of International Women’s Day (March 8)\, the show’s goal is to encourage women to express themselves artistically in a themed group exhibit\, which is not juried and therefore inclusive.\n\nThe spirit if the exhibition is one of affirmation and co-operation.\n\nThe female artists participating in this year’s show come from diverse backgrounds\, are of all ages (teenage and up) and levels of artistic experience. Most of the artists live in the region\, although the show is open to any female artist.\n\nThe wide range of media in the exhibit includes works in oil\, acrylic and watercolour\, as well as mixed media\, printmaking\, photography\, sculpture\, fibre arts and video production.\n\nThis year\, over 130 artists are sharing their art and stories\, interpreting the theme “ON THE EDGE”.\n\nFor more information\, contact: Juliana Hawke womensartshow@gmail.com

SUMMARY:AT RISK: TRACEY LAWKO
DESCRIPTION:Our native pollinators and their habitat are threatened.  Insect populations are declining due to habitat loss\, pesticide use and disease. 75% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to set seed and we humans get one third of our food from flowering plants.\n\nIn recent years\, Tracey has become increasingly aware of the changing patterns of the bees and butterflies in her garden and around her studio in the Niagara Escarpment.  As they move from flower to flower collecting pollen\, they enable the continuation of our food crops and flowering plants.\n\nThrough her finely stitched botanical illustrations\, she invites the viewer to consider the importance of these small creatures to our survival.
