SUMMARY:Robyn Rennie: Seeing Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Seeing Beyond is an immersive experience featuring 27 new paintings each accompanied by a full sized tactile replica for accessibility. The element of touch gives you an elevated art experience. Audio descriptions allow you to hear the artist’s insights and inspirations.  \nAbout the Artist \nAfter significant vision loss\, Robyn developed her unique style featuring bold colours and interesting textures in part to convey how she experiences the world. Her award-winning paintings and public art pieces have been prominently displayed all over Ontario. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Accessibility Features \nEach painting will have a full sized\, tactile replica beside it. This replica allows the audience to touch and feel the work and experience the textures and 3-dimensional features.  \nAudio descriptions will be available for each piece. A custom-designed\, dedicated headset will be mounted beside each painting\, so that you can hear the artist describe the painting and discuss the inspiration behind it.  \nThe arrangement of each set (painting\, headset and tactile replica) will be very consistent for all paintings to make navigation easier. Textured indicators on the floor will facilitate locating each set using mobility canes.  \nBraille and Large Print descriptions and instructions will be available. SUMMARY:Grant's Legacy: Capturing Orillia's History on Film
DESCRIPTION:We will be screening a series of 16mm film footage\, mainly of Orillia\, from 1928 through to 1964. Known as Grant’s Films\, there are 34 reels of black and white documentary footage showcasing a range of activities and everyday life in Orillia. \nThe reels include scenes of Lake Couchiching and Couchiching Beach Park\, a hockey game played on the ice of the lake during Christmas week 1931 and footage of infrastructure enhancements in the downtown area. \nThe footage was filmed by Jack and his father\, Lewis.  Lewis had emigrated from England with his wife Daisy.  They raised three sons\, Jack\, Oliver and Bill in Orillia\, both in Orillia on Laclie Street and at their retreat property on Division Road\, Township of Severn.  This retreat property was eventually gifted to the Couchiching Conservancy. SUMMARY:Writing in the Room: Orillia's Literacy Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition curated by MengHan Wu\, Shruti Narania and Harley Duck under the guidance of Professor Amy Bagshaw\, Program Coordinator Jeff Nye and OMAH’s Programming Coordinators Tanya Cunnington and Hannah Arndt \nStudents were invited to OMAH’s permanent collection to select art and artefacts based on a theme of their choosing. The resulting exhibition resembles a comfortable parlour featuring books by Mazo de la Roche and Stephen Leacock\, a manual Underwood typewriter and artworks by Arthur and Travis Shilling. Please come celebrate their hard work with us.  Writing in the Room runs until April 6. SUMMARY:REGENT PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL GRADE 6/7 GARDEN DESIGN PROGRAM
DESCRIPTION:April 19 – May 10\, 2024FRANKLIN CARMICHAEL GALLERY \n \n \n \n \n \n REGENT PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL GRADE 6/7 GARDEN DESIGN PROGRAM\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n For the second year\, the Orillia Museum of Art & History and Parklane Landscapes\, a local sustainable landscape company\, have partnered to offer a unique program to students from Regent Park Public School. \nThe objective of this program was to enhance knowledge transfer about the benefits of youth actions to naturalize shorelines and reduce the impact of stormwater runoff to Lake Simcoe receiving waters. \nThis program provided students with an opportunity to learn about native plant species\, garden designs and their function for ecological protection\, stormwater management\, habitat restoration and climate resiliency.  \nIn this program the museum and Parklane Landscapes presented a hypothetical case study site for the grade 6/7 students at Regent Park Public School to learn environmentalism through art and design. This year\, we chose the site of Veterans Memorial park\,  located at 154 Elgin Street\, for its historical importance\, its location along the lake shore of Orillia and the opportunity to educate students on the value of native plants in shoreline management.  \nFor each student\, the finished project required five deliverables:  \nA poster on native plantingA planting schemeA clay sculpture of a gargoyleA paragraph describing why native planting is important to themA letter to the City of Orillia advocating for more native plants at Veterans Park\, their ecological benefits and their contribution to stormwater management. Our main goal is to encourage women to express themselves artistically in a themed group show\, which is not juried and inclusive of all abilities\, experience and orientations. The spirit of the exhibit is one of affirmation and co-operation. \nAs we celebrate 27 years of expression and exhibition\, this year’s artists have embraced the challenge of interpreting the theme BEYOND THE SURFACE through both their art and story. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please note that this is exhibit is now closed for submissions.
