investigating “unmaking” as a creative act\, exploring new materialism in helping to dismantle colonial\, capitalist\, and patriarchal approaches to the land.  Jill Price has previously exhibited at \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n IMAGE: Reminiscent of 19th century wallpaper patterns\, this hand-drawn ink wallpaper by Jill Price presents a patterning of fur and animal forms.  It will be part of a colonial parlour installation in the exhibition. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This is an exhibition that playfully speculates on how animals might choose to engage with\, frame\, label and question natural history objects held within the archives of museums.   The North American Fur Trade lasted approximately 350 years between 1530 and 1880.   The Atherley Narrows\, a site that sits between Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching\, was a source of fishing and hunting for local Indigenous people as far back as 5000 years ago.  With the advent of the fur trade and a visit by Samuel de Champlain in 1615\, the Narrows became a key site of cultural and capital exchange and led to the eventual formation of Orillia as a European settlement in 1840.  Drawing on narratives and word play based on animals hunted\, trapped\, and exchanged\, Unfurled utilizes objects and materials held within OMAH’s historical collection\, as well as objects created by Price\, to discuss how the thriving abundance of animals led to the material wealth of their prime predators\, human Educated in painting\, sculpture and photography\, he uses these materials as best suited to his ideas. Will is keenly interested in the creative process and the materials used during this process. When painting\, I celebrate the energy felt when beholding the intrinsic beauty of our world\, no matter how ugly or scary. She has volunteered for the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority as an Archeological Field Crew Member working on indigenous & historical archaeological sites.  She joined OMAH’s History Committee in 2019 and has supported OMAH’s research activities by contributing her time to working on OMAH’s collections database and publications. \n \n \n \n \n \n Hilary Villneff\n Hilary Villneff works as the Director of Learning at Camp Couchiching in Longford Mills\, and is a Contract Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Lakehead Orillia. Her Masters was in Applied Health Sciences with a focus on Outdoor Education. Healthcare in Canada is largely a standard service in our lives\, so many people neglect to think about how it got to where it is today. It is important to take a moment\, especially nowadays\, to appreciate the struggles and advancements made in medicine\, which is the goal of our new Medical Exhibit.  The Medical Exhibit showcases artifacts from OMAH’s permanent collection that relate to Orillia’s local medical history. The exhibit explores the history of the Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital (OSMH)\, including images of the hospital through the ages\, the Orillia School of Nursing\, which ran from 1910 until 1974\, and the career of local doctor\, Trevor McLennan (1907 – 1980) who served in WWII and ran the radiology department at the OSMH. The most exciting part is the apothecary corner\, where you can view medical bottles for a wide range of ailments and historical treatments.
