SUMMARY:Gangs\, Guns\, & Grog
DESCRIPTION:This summer OMAH’s popular guided downtown walking tour returns. Gangs\, Guns and Grog is themed around Orillia in the 1870s\, a time in which there was a licensed pub for every 150 citizens and it was legal to carry a loaded and concealed firearm. 1870s Orillia was chaos\, and we are so excited to tell you all about it every Wednesday night! Tours will depart from OMAH at 7pm and finish at Couchiching Craft Brewing Co. at 8:30pm where your first drink is included in your ticket price (participants must be over 19 years old). Please wear appropriate footwear to walk in. This program begins on Wednesday July 10\, 2024\, and will run every Wednesday until the end of August. Book now as space is limited! You won’t want to miss out on this fantastic date night opportunity\, or an evening out with friends.  \nAdult ticket (19+) \n$25 per person ($20 for members). \nTickets must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. \nFor more information\, send an email to Vanessa. \n \n \n \n \n \n Link to Register Coming Soon! \n \n \n \n \n \n Preview the tour! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n VIEW OUR OTHER TOURS AND ADULT PROGRAMMING\n \n \n \n \n \n AllTours\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Haunted History Tours \n \n \n \n \n \n A Night at the Museum \n \n \n \n \n \n Gangs\, Guns & Grog \n \n \n \n \n \n ORILLIA PUBLIC ART TOUR

DESCRIPTION:Evolution: Packet’s death spawns birth of digital newspaper\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Wednesday\, May 15\, 2024 at 7PM ON ZOOM \nIt was a dark day in Orillia when The Packet & Times — after 144 years of faithful service — shut its doors in November 2017. Employees found out about the news on social media. No final edition. No goodbye. No thank you. Our community was left angry and frustrated\, wondering how they would find out what was happening locally. In less than two months\, our speaker helped assemble a team to resurrect the community’s lifeline. OrilliaMatters was born. Its DNA was digital and its foundational employees were former Packet staffers. \nJoin ‘OrilliaMatters’ Editor Dave Dawson for his talk ‘Evolution: Packet’s death spawns’ birth of digital newspaper. He will tell us about the relationship of The Packet to our community\, its foundational importance to good journalism and the growth of ‘OrilliaMatters.’ \nDon’t miss it! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	No Results Found\n	The page you requested could not be found. Our main goal is to encourage women to express themselves artistically in a themed group show\, which is not juried and inclusive of all abilities\, experience and orientations. The spirit of the exhibit is one of affirmation and co-operation. \nAs we celebrate 27 years of expression and exhibition\, this year’s artists have embraced the challenge of interpreting the theme BEYOND THE SURFACE through both their art and story. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Please note that this is exhibit is now closed for submissions. DESCRIPTION:April 19 – May 10\, 2024FRANKLIN CARMICHAEL GALLERY \n \n \n \n \n \n REGENT PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL GRADE 6/7 GARDEN DESIGN PROGRAM\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n For the second year\, the Orillia Museum of Art & History and Parklane Landscapes\, a local sustainable landscape company\, have partnered to offer a unique program to students from Regent Park Public School. \nThe objective of this program was to enhance knowledge transfer about the benefits of youth actions to naturalize shorelines and reduce the impact of stormwater runoff to Lake Simcoe receiving waters. \nThis program provided students with an opportunity to learn about native plant species\, garden designs and their function for ecological protection\, stormwater management\, habitat restoration and climate resiliency.  \nIn this program the museum and Parklane Landscapes presented a hypothetical case study site for the grade 6/7 students at Regent Park Public School to learn environmentalism through art and design. This year\, we chose the site of Veterans Memorial park\,  located at 154 Elgin Street\, for its historical importance\, its location along the lake shore of Orillia and the opportunity to educate students on the value of native plants in shoreline management.  \nFor each student\, the finished project required five deliverables:  \nA poster on native plantingA planting schemeA clay sculpture of a gargoyleA paragraph describing why native planting is important to themA letter to the City of Orillia advocating for more native plants at Veterans Park\, their ecological benefits and their contribution to stormwater management. SUMMARY:Writing in the Room: Orillia's Literacy Legacy
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition curated by MengHan Wu\, Shruti Narania and Harley Duck under the guidance of Professor Amy Bagshaw\, Program Coordinator Jeff Nye and OMAH’s Programming Coordinators Tanya Cunnington and Hannah Arndt \nStudents were invited to OMAH’s permanent collection to select art and artefacts based on a theme of their choosing. The resulting exhibition resembles a comfortable parlour featuring books by Mazo de la Roche and Stephen Leacock\, a manual Underwood typewriter and artworks by Arthur and Travis Shilling. Please come celebrate their hard work with us.  Writing in the Room runs until April 6.
