Elizabeth Wyn Wood (1903-1966) was a pioneering female artist born in Orillia.  She studied sculpture at The Ontario College of Art in Toronto where she was taught by notable artists such as Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, and Emanuel Hahn.  Upon her graduation in 1926, she attended the Art Students League in New York City, where she was drawn to Egyptian low relief sculptures, an artform which would influence her own body of  work.  Moving away from the traditional styles and methods of her predecessors, Elizabeth Wyn Wood is considered a modernist sculptor.

Wyn Wood was also an accomplished draftsperson, often gaining inspiration for her landscape based sculptures by sketching in and around the Orillia area, Georgian Bay and the French River.  This exhibition comprises several drawings, sculpture and personal items from both from the Browne Family, Wyn Wood’s Grandchildren, and OMAH’s permanent collection.
