Junior Counsellors

This program is open to ages 14 – 18

What you’ll do

Junior Counsellors are an integral part of the Camp OMAH experience. Each day of camp, there are four opportunities for Junior Counsellors to join camp and to build their leadership skills. Junior Counsellors play a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere for campers, while honing their leadership skills through hands-on experience and mentorship from seasoned staff.

Junior Counsellors at Camp OMAH embark on a transformative journey where they acquire invaluable skills and insights that extend far beyond their time at camp. Through hands-on experience and dedicated mentorship, they learn:

  1. Leadership Development: Junior Counsellors gain practical leadership skills by assisting with group activities, guiding campers through challenges, and collaborating with fellow junior counsellors, and OMAH staff members.
  2. Communication Skills: They enhance their ability to communicate effectively with campers, peers, and supervisors, fostering an environment of trust and cooperation.
  3. Conflict Resolution: Junior Counsellors learn to navigate conflicts and challenges constructively, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere for everyone at camp.
  4. Teamwork and Collaboration: They develop strong teamwork skills through collaborative efforts with fellow counsellors, assisting with activities, and supporting each other in day-to-day operations.
  5. Responsibility and Accountability: Taking on responsibilities such as supervising campers, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and assisting with logistical tasks instills a sense of accountability and reliability.
  6. Adaptability: Camp OMAH provides an ever-changing environment, allowing Junior Counsellors to adapt to new situations, problem-solve on the fly, and embrace the unexpected with confidence.
  7. Empathy and Compassion: Through interactions with campers and peers, Junior Counsellors cultivate empathy and compassion, understanding the diverse needs and experiences of those around them.
  8. Self-Discovery: Camp OMAH encourages self-reflection and personal growth, empowering Junior Counsellors to discover their strengths, passions, and areas for development.

Overall, the Junior Counsellor experience at Camp OMAH fosters growth, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to leadership and service.
