Get creative at OMAH Tuesday evenings in April. Over 5 different sessions, our artist instructors will gently guide you through the process of learning a different skill each week, even if you have never touched a paintbrush or held a stick of charcoal. Each session will cover the basics involved when using a different medium. With Art 101 at OMAH, you will get a crash course in materials, art-making, and terminology. Perfect for beginners or for those who would like a refresher course. All materials will be provided.
Registration is open until March 28, 2025. Please note that OMAH’s programs operate on a cost-recovery basis, and sessions may be canceled if minimum registration numbers are not met.

Gillian Lowry is a multidisciplinary artist, working in illustration, printmaking, painting and writing. She studied Studio Art and Geography at The University of Guelph and graduated on the Dean’s List with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), receiving the Printmaking Award.

Week Four: April 22, Collage Art with Peter Fyfe
In this intro to mixed media and collage art class, Peter will guide participants through the creation of a colourful collage on a hard surface. After a brief lesson about the history of collage, participants will arrange materials, including magazine scraps and imagery, cardboard, pieces of coloured wood, small objects and/or fabric to create a mixed media art piece with a theme (and/or bring your own photos or scraps to tell a story!) Peter Fyfe is an artist known for his colourful, hard-edged abstract and loose impressionist paintings that push simple iconography to the fore. He is a graduate of York University in Drawing and Sculpture and attended the Banff School of Fine Arts.
Week Five: April 29, Fibre Art with Louise Gervais
In this hands-on workshop, under Louise’s guidance, participants will learn about elements of design and perspective while making a spring flower collage. Louise Gervais has enjoyed a life-long passion for everything textile. Born into a family of award winning seamstresses and artisans, Louise soon learned to sew, embroider crochet and knit as well as quilt, dye and felt.
