Theme: From Artefact to Eco-Act

Fashion Forward 2026  invites artists, designers, and makers to transform stories of the past into wearable works of art.

Inspired by OMAH’s collections, local heritage, and the natural environment, From Artefact to Eco-Act celebrates creativity that connects art, history, and sustainability.

Artists are encouraged to explore:

• Reinterpreting artefacts from OMAH’s collection or historical themes through contemporary design

• Using sustainable, found, or repurposed materials

• Reflecting on Orillia’s identity and the stories we tell through what we wear

Eligibility

• Open to artists, designers, and makers of all experience levels (individuals or teams)
  
• Works must be original, wearable, and safe for runway or display presentation
  
• Student and youth submissions are welcome
  
• Artists must be available for a dress rehearsal (March 21, 2026) and the event date (March 28, 2026)
  

Submission Requirements

Artists are invited to submit proposals for projects inspired by objects from the OMAH collection. To select an object for your project, you may book a time to view the collection in person or explore it online by clicking HERE

Please submit the following to Fashion Forward 2026 Submission Form by Friday, December 19, 2025:

1. Artist Name(s) and Contact Information
2. Project Title and Concept Description (max 200 words)
3. Selected object from OMAH’s collection, identify with accession #/Object ID.
4. Sketch or Photo of Design Concept -up to 5 (PDF or JPG)
5. Materials List (note any recycled or repurposed materials)
6. Short Artist Bio (max 100 words)
7. Model Needs (if you require a model or plan to model your own work)

Selected artists may be invited to:

• Participate in pre-event photography sessions
  

• Feature in promotional videos and social media campaigns
  

All artists will be invited to show at least one of their renderings in an exhibition from March 28 to early May 2026.

Selection Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on:

• Creativity & Originality – Innovative interpretation of the theme and museum collection object
  

• Connection to Art/History/Environment – Meaningful storytelling through design
  

• Craftsmanship & Presentation – Quality of construction and materials
  

• Feasibility & Safety – Ability to wear or display piece on the runway

OMAH Fashion Forward: From Artefact to Eco-Act is an immersive evening where fashion, art, and history converge. This benefit event reimagines OMAH’s fashion artefacts through an eco-conscious lens, inviting local artists and designers to reinterpret pieces from the museum’s collection into sustainable, wearable works of art.

Guests will experience a runway show, live music, mixology corner, and silent auction, blending contemporary design with historical inspiration. The night will highlight OMAH’s commitment to creativity, community, and environmental responsibility.
