Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 7PM ON ZOOM

Jessica Allen, our new History Committee Chair, will be giving a talk on January 15 called: Archiving the Future: History we Can Hold Onto. Jessica is a dedicated museum professional and heritage advocate, managing the widely recognized Simcoe Curator account, which promotes cultural heritage and historical storytelling across the region. With a postgraduate diploma in Museum and Gallery Studies and extensive experience working with archival materials for institutions like Library and Archives Canada, Jessica is passionate about making history accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.

This talk will dive into OMAH’s collection and discuss the importance of museum collections as a whole. OMAH is home to over 23,000 artefacts but what does that actually mean? This talk will also include discussions on sustainability, accessing collections, and featured artifacts!

The presentation is designed to provide an accessible and inspiring overview of archival work, focusing on how museums like OMAH can utilize archives to enrich their storytelling and foster deeper community connections. Attendees will leave with an understanding of the importance of archives, the challenges archivists face, and innovative ways archives can support the museum’s mission of preserving and celebrating local history.
